Chemo brain! Okay, this is when the chemotherapy drugs have affected your body and mind. The literature says you may not remember certain things or think clearly. There are conflicting views about how long this forgetfulness/fogginess may last.
“Well, I don’t know if I’m getting older and forgetting or if Chemo brain is to blame.” All right, I know it’s real, but my husband says “It’s real because you believe it’s real and therefore, it will happen to you.” As if it occurs only because I think it will. What about those folks it happens to who know nothing about it. Or what about research on people who meditate and don’t know it will benefit them and it does? “Do you see what I’m saying?” Thank you! “Yes, what you believe has an effect on you.” But also things affect you that you have little or no idea about how or if they will affect you.
Fall out
Sometimes you just have to face the fact that chemotherapy drugs going through your body have certain kinds of effects. For instance, my fingernails turned dark (that’s why I always wore nail polish while receiving chemotherapy). My hair fell out and I lost my eyebrows – those were some of the things that were most obvious to others.
Hidden Features
You know, if you have a broken leg, people can readily see it and know something is going on. However, with breast cancer, illness or even mental health, no one may even suspect that you may be going through something. So, as they used to say on Hill Street Blues – “Let’s be careful out there.”
By the way, I still haven’t gotten my eyebrows back, so I use a colored wax, a brush and stencil to paint them on every day. (Ssssh, don’t tell anybody.) What counts? Bovanti Cosmetics at Northlake Mall made my brows look natural, so all I have to do is replicate their work – EVERYDAY!!
“And you thought it was just makeup.” Click Only makeup, uh to see what Urban Decay has to say.
Great post. Did you use regular nail polish? I’m wondering if natural nail polish or one with fewer chemicals even exists.
Then I used regular (lasted less than a week), gel (sometimes), now I use SNS (which is supposed to be more natural). I usually disallow the buffing of my nail with that metal thing. I don’t get them done regularly anymore, just for special occasions since my nail have always been thin.
I used essie nail polish. Now I use SNS (gel like, but not gel, it is a powder) it is supposed to be better. I try to keep them from messing with my curticles or using that electric file on my nails since they are so thin.
