A Walk in the Park
Today’s Blog post is a light-hearted look at life. Sometimes, I take things too seriously. We’ve got to take time to stop and smell the roses (although finding fragrant ones is almost impossible.)

Recently, I walked around Ponce City Market with one of my Sorority sisters. I hadn’t seen her in a couple of years.  In college, she was and still is a sweet, kind, and loving person. We had lunch and decided to look at some of the shops. I try to follow trends, but only one per season, just to keep in the flow of things. I recalled seeing an interesting lipstick trend for women with brown skin.

Retail Therapy
Since we were near Sephora, I thought we could checkout a few of the colors.  I tried several on the back of my hand before selecting putting them on my lips. Yes, of course I had them spray and sanitize the lipsticks before I tried them. My mother would still think that was an unsanitary act, even though the tester tube was sprayed with enough sanitizer to make me feel comfortable.

First of all, the company names really didn’t sound like they were something desirable or you yearned to put on your lips, eyes, or cheeks.  Can you imagine the conversation in the Board Room? “I know, let’s think of a company name that will make women want to rush out and buy our cosmetics.”  I’ve got it! Let’s name them Urban Decay and Bite. See what I mean? Ironically, I am reading a book with products named “Beautiful You”. Now. those products are really scary. But I digress.

Second, I tried on three lipsticks, but only one looked halfway decent on me. All of them were such dark colors. I felt I needed to put the dark color all the way down by my teeth for it to look okay.  That wouldn’t work because I’d have lipstick all over my teeth. Even doing that finger thing so lipstick isn’t on your teeth wouldn’t work because the color was so dark the stark contrast still showed up.

If I thought the name of the company was a bit strange, the name of the color I thought was okay really had us quickly walking away. The color was – Disturbed. Anyway, we still had a fun afternoon. It’s always fun to catch up with old friends and try new things.

What Counts?

What do you do that’s fun? See you next week.
